Our Story Discover
Saffron Restaurant holds a very special place in the heart of its owner Daud (David) Amiri. He came to America in his early 20’s from his war torn country of Afghanistan.
Having very little money, David immediately took on two jobs as a busboy and a taxi driver and he enrolled in Queen’s college.
Over the next four years while completing his degree in Accounting, David continued to advance in the restaurant business and became a managing partner of five high-end restaurants and catering halls in New York City.
From 2000 to 2015, David traveled very often from New York City to Hampton to visit his mother who lived in Hampton, Va.
David says, “I could not help but to notice how most of the restaurants in this area were part of corporate chains and that there seemed to be a lack of specialty restaurants serving authentic dishes from other countries around the world.”
He shares that Afghanistan is a country of over 10,000 years old and its people have learned so many ways of cooking with spices and creating amazing flavors. He believes that food will bring people peacefully together. He knows how very important it is to get to know each customer and build a relationship with them. In fact, David refers to customers as “guests” and they are treated as such.
The delicious food offerings not only come from Afghanistan, but also Iran, Turkey, Lebanon and Greece. All of the foods contain rich spices hailing from Afghanistan. Saffron, the spice that the restaurant is named after, comes from Afghanistan. The special flat bread used for dipping into the unique sauces is made in his bakery in NY.

We are most proud of what our customers say about us.
Service was outstanding. The gentleman took the time to explain each dish. Food was attractive and delicious. If you like or would like to try Mediterranean and Middle Eastern food, this is the place to go.
We ordered “to go” to share at home in honor of our anniversary. David was very kind and the food was fresh and hot. The bread was great, the babaganoush is the best I’ve ever had, and the lamb kabob was superb. And the tea…oh it was delightful. If you like hot floral teas from the east, the Persian tea alone is worth the trip.
This is not only authentic Middle Eastern cuisine, but it’s top tier. If it’s your first time, I highly recommend getting the Saffron combo. The owner is very sweet and informative as well so feel free to ask any questions. It’s so good!
Today was my first visit to Saffron but it won’t be my last. The food was amazing! The service was great. Our host spent time with us making sure we had exactly what we needed and explained how many of the dishes were made. It was a great experience!
Haven’t you gotten bored of the same old tired foods? Be adventurous. Food from Lebanon and the Middle East will tantalize your palate while the quaint but fancy atmosphere will make a night out worth it. Amazing meats and the biggest variety of vegetarian dishes you’ll find on the peninsula. And to finish it all off, try the delicious Persian Tea; it’s an experience!
Wonderful experience! The owner David was such a gracious host and extremely knowledgeable about origins of all the dishes. The salmon, tea (Persian), rice and veggies were delicious! Oh, let me not forget the cookies and lemon cake! Looking forward to our next visit!
